The Warriors Wall

A Free Hosted Blogging Service for Veterans and Their Families

The Warriors WallThe website – www.warriorswall.com — started with a suggestion from a Vietnam veteran in the monthly writing workshop I lead at the San Diego Vet Center. “Maybe you could set up a webpage where we could post our stories between workshop meetings,” he said.

“Great idea.” I thought, and called on a web designer to help me create it. Drawing on the community-building aspects of social-networking sites like Facebook, we expanded the initial concept to include veterans and groups beyond the Vet Center, message boards, and multi-page blogs. These blogs are actually individual websites, hosted for free at The Warriors Wall, which includes on its pages how-to tips and videos to help new bloggers get started. The site’s designer, a Purple Heart veteran, donated his time, saying he considered the project “a community service.”

A Place to Write and Connect

The Warriors Wall not only provides a place for veterans and their families to write and share their stories, it also makes it easy for participants to connect and communicate with each other.

Like the workshops I lead at the Vet Center, The Warriors Wall encourages veterans to shape their experiences into stories. In a section called “The Idea File,” I regularly offer writing prompts – suggestions — to help them do exactly that.

It’s free. It’s easy. And for veterans, there’s really nothing else quite like it on the web. Clicking here will take you there.
